Laaska News Feb. 20, 2012

International Atomic Energy Agency experts are heading for Iran to investigate a military facility where they suspect experiments related to nuclear weapons development have been carried out.

A 5-member IAEA team led by Deputy Director General Herman Nackaerts left Vienna for Tehran on Sunday.

The international nuclear watchdog dispatched Nackaerts? team to the Iranian capital last month.

But diplomatic sources say Iran didn?t fully cooperate with the team, and inspectors couldn?t verify their suspicions.

This time, the team is to remain in Iran for 2 days starting Monday, where they will again request entry to the military facility they were refused access to last month.

Meeting reporters prior to his departure, Nackaerts expressed hopes to have several constructive days in Tehran.

The IAEA is demanding that Iran clearly explain its nuclear program by the time of the agency?s board meeting in March.

Our reporter in Vienna says the focus is now on whether the IAEA inspectors will be able to gain the cooperation of the Iranian government.
